Computer Network Lab

The Computer Networks Laboratory within the Computer Engineering Department is designed for undergraduate and graduate students who want to do practical work on basic wired and wireless network structures. In this laboratory, studies can be carried out in the areas of computer network installation, network security and network protocols.

Services

• Trainings and Seminars : In the Computer Networks Laboratory, training can be provided on equipment that may be required for undergraduate and graduate students’ graduation projects or graduate theses, upon request .

Analyses and Studies Used in Scientific Research Activities

• Network Installation : Examples of small-scale local area network installations can be carried out.
• Network Security : Studies can be carried out in the fields of computer network security and network protocols by utilizing existing equipment.

Laboratory Infrastructure

• Equipment and Devices : The laboratory includes switches from Zyxel , firewall devices from Zyxel and FortiNet , wireless network devices from Zyxel , routers from Cisco , and various computers and laptops that will allow connection to these devices and run simulations.
• Laboratory Network Connection : In addition to the wireless internet connection ( eduroam ), there are 5 (five) wired connection points in the laboratory that can be used to connect to the university network.
• Licensed Software : The computers used in the laboratory are equipped with licensed software provided by Dokuz Eylül University, open source network software and Cisco Packet Tracer is used.
• Physical Facilities : The laboratory area is 20 m2 ^. There are 4 (four) work desks, 2 (two) meeting tables, a writing board and a presentation screen in the laboratory.

• General Questions :

Permission Required for the Use of the Laboratory: The use of the laboratory is subject to written requests from students through their advisors and approval after review of these requests.

How to access the laboratory: Supervised but permanent access to the laboratory is provided for those who wish to use the laboratory.

How is the laboratory audited: It is essential that individuals use the devices in the laboratory in accordance with their needs and without causing damage. The laboratory’s usage is monitored daily.

• Technical Questions :

Changing of the configuration of devices: Existing devices can be configured by users according to their needs , and users must return these devices to their initial configuration when they are finished.

Can I use my own computer in the lab?: You can use your own computers in the lab to connect to devices and carry out your projects whenever you need.

Can I bring and use different equipment in the laboratory?: You can use your own equipment in addition to the existing equipment in the laboratory, provided that you specify and receive approval in advance.
